People Psyence®
Enhancing Employee Motivation through Gamification

People Psyence®

Evelyn Chue, Managing Director, People Psyence® As employee engagement is critical to effectively competing in a world of accelerating change, business organizations have been presented with a rare opportunity to build credibility through gamification. Claimed by experts as the best way to engage people with elements of competitive play, gamification has become a growing trend in a digital business environment. However, there’s a catch. The realm of human behavior is yet to be completely analyzed, quantified, systematized or commoditized by gamification providers. More often than not, gamification is poorly designed, focusing on simple game mechanics, such as points, badges & leaderboards instead of locking down customer/ employee engagement. This is where People Psyence® aims to create a difference.

“Our gamification designers focus on the motivation of users rather than merely incorporating game mechanics while constructing the solution. We emphasize understanding the spectrum of motivation that drives higher engagement,” begins Evelyn Chue, Managing Director, People Psyence®. People Psyence® stays true to its motto ‘In people we find answers’, providing greater weightage to psychology than technology in the equation of gamification. “We focus more on understanding the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation of the people than having a full emphasis on the technology. Applying psychology to emulsify our human capital solutions, we stress on studying people—psychology, motivation, and behavior—solving their problems and applying technology as an enabler which creates earnest experience,” says Evelyn.

Driven by the idea that the Psyence® (coined combining ‘psychology’ and ‘science’) of people is an ever-changing phenomenon, Evelyn and her team at People Psyence® host a wide range of assessments such as Situational Judgment Tests (SJTs) that encourage organizations to assess individuals from the perspectives of work behavior, cognitive ability, emotional intelligence, as well as values and competency.
These virtual assessments have been instrumental in minimizing costs on conventional assessments. Blending in gamification as part of service offerings such as culture alignment, change management, on-boarding, transformation program, etc., People Psyence® has advanced from running diagnostics to helping employers in sustaining motivation and employee engagement throughout the initiatives. People Psyence® leverages the Game Thinking Framework founded by Amy Jo Kim from Silicon Valley, to assist innovators in multiplying their innovation sprint by almost ten times. “While Design Thinking is currently applied as part of the service offerings, the team finds Game Thinking and Design Thinking highly compatible. In fact Game thinking introduces on three additional key design tools—Superfans, Mastery Path, and Learning Loop to spice up the design of gamification solutions,” states Evelyn.

According to Evelyn, “Gamification is not a silver bullet for all employee engagement matters, it revolves around the process of identifying the early adopters and designs the new employee and customer experience based on their insights.” Added to that, it is a structured approach beginning with a hypothesis, empathizing, followed by designing playtest and launching a prototype, which helps designers to reach the core of the design faster. With Evelyn’s insights regarding long-term employee engagement and product design handling skills, People Psyence® has been making significant headways in the gamification field.

“We believe a holistic approach enables clients to attain comprehensive insights concerning potential candidates as well as existing employees,” explains Evelyn. The company has also ventured into different service offerings such as Design Thinking, and LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology, competency modeling, process mapping, succession planning, total rewards, and similar other services.

To reduce absenteeism at the workplace while simultaneously bringing down the turnover rates and increasing productivity, People Psyence® has introduced Eunoia, an employee assistance program (EAP). Eunoia offers clinical assessments that help users find ways to motivate employees and increase the overall productivity where it facilitates stress management, emotional issues, workplace conflict, parenting challenges, grief or loss along with trauma counseling, work stress, and depression and anxiety. Eunoia aims to support organizations in experiencing better talent retention and improved employee productivity.
The Gold Award winner under the category of “Best Psychometric Testing Provider,” People Psyence® is committed to instilling values within a workplace with the development of a powerful bonding between the leaders and the employees through effective organization dynamics.
